Fifth Grade Play Date TODAY at Elmington Park, 5-7 PM
The PTSO invites all incoming 5th grade families to visit with old friends and connect with new families in Elmington Park (near the playground). Bring a picnic dinner, blanket, and outdoor toys to share. This is a casual, come-and-go event.
Blue Jay Beginnings (5th Grade Orientation) TOMORROW, 9-11 AM
Incoming 5th grade students will meet their teachers, get their schedules, and tour the building, while families talk with PTSO representatives and administration about all things West. West Wear will be available for purchase.
Grades 6-8 Sneak Peek/Schedule Pickup TOMORROW, 6-7:30 PM
Sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade families can pick up their child’s schedule and purchase West Wear tomorrow evening. Incoming 5th graders who were unable to attend Blue Jay Beginnings earlier in the day may also pick up their schedules at this time. Come at any point during the night, but we will close down at 7:30 to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep before the first day.
Volunteers Needed Tomorrow, 1-3 PM
Ms. Ketchum needs four more volunteers to finish stuffing folders from 1 to 3 tomorrow. If you are free, please stop by the office and help her out!
Where Students Should Report on Tuesday
5th grade: Auditorium
6th grade: Cafeteria
7th grade: Old gym
8th grade: New gym
Parents are welcome to walk children into the lobby via the main doors facing Elmington Park and stay for coffee on the front steps. Doors will open at 8:30, 10 minutes earlier than usual, on this special day.
Drop-off/Pickup and Parking
Car riders should be dropped off and picked up on the Elmington Avenue side of campus (by the gym). The Bowling Avenue entrance is for bus riders only. Parents who are walking in with their student on Tuesday morning should park in Elmington Park or on one of the side streets off Elmington Avenue–NOT in the lot off Bowling Avenue.
Look for First Day Folders, Return Forms for Free T-Shirt!
First Day Folders will be going home with students this week. Some of the pages are for your information only; some must be filled out and returned to school. When a student returns the “signature required” and “permission form” pages (related to the student handbook) completely filled out to their first period teacher, they will receive a free West Wear t-shirt. Please only sign and return the “opt-out preferences” form if you wish for your child to NOT have access to Limitless Libraries, the internet, or school social work services.
Important Change to School Lunch Program This Year
West End is one of the schools in MNPS that will no longer be offering free lunch to all students. The student price for lunch is $2.50. The First Day Folder contains the application for meal benefits that must be submitted in order for qualifying students to receive free or reduced lunch. Breakfast will still be available every morning before the first bell at no cost to families.
