School Supplies and Back-to-School Events

The first day of the 2021-22 school year is Tuesday, August 10 (exactly four weeks from today!) Here are a few things to do between now and then:

Purchase school supplies. The supplies your Blue Jay will need to begin the new year are listed below (click here for PDF version). If you’re wondering whether your student needs to bring all this stuff in on the first day of school, the answer is no. On August 10, make sure they have something to write with–and on–and then have them bring in the bigger stuff (wipes, paper towels, etc.) over the next several days. Also, note that students who already have an MNPS-provided laptop will need to bring it to school; students who do not currently have a district-provided laptop will be issued one.

If you are an incoming fifth-grade family, save the date for Blue Jay Beginnings. Fifth-grade orientation, better known as Blue Jay Beginnings, is Friday, August 6, from 9 to 11 AM. Our newest Blue Jays will meet their teachers and classmates and get a tour of the school. There will also be an information session for parents and an opportunity to purchase West Wear. More details coming soon!

Make plans to attend the back-to-school family picnic in Elmington Park. Come hang out with other West End families in Elmington Park (in front of the school) on Monday, August 9, from 6 to 8 PM. Bring a blanket, picnic dinner, and perhaps some sports equipment to share. Students in grades 6-8 (and any 5th graders who were not able to attend Blue Jay Beginnings) will be able to pick up their schedules, and West Wear will be available for purchase.

Don’t forget about summer reading! All students are expected to have read at least one book by the time school starts. Not sure what to read? Click here for suggestions.
