Pathways for African American Success Program Seeking Participants for Panel Discussions

DESCRIPTION OF THE OPPORTUNITY:

To be invited to participate in a discussion group with caregivers and youth from Nashville to participate in the Pathways for African American Success Nashville Project. During the discussion group parents/caregivers and youth will talk about their experiences living in and growing up in their neighborhoods, including experiences in school and other community settings. We are particularly interested in families’ stories and advice about what they have found works to make everyday life experiences manageable and less stressful.

WHAT VANDERBILT WILL DO WITH THIS INFORMATION:

Our project team reviews information shared by families, identifies common themes, and uses the information to develop a family strength-based program for African American families living in urban communities.  After developing the program, we will collaborate with families to use, develop, and deliver the program to a small group of families in Nashville to see if the program is useful and appealing.  Our team will allow families to suggest changes to the program in preparation for testing the program on many families in several urban areas in the southern region of the U.S.
