Fall 2017-18 Club Descriptions

Book Club
Club members will be responsible for reading one book each month chosen by Ms Dixon. The books are discussed at each meeting. Membership is open to all students. New members can join throughout the year by contacting Ms. Dixon. There will be 12 books available to be borrowed. We can also get copies from Limitless Libraries. There are two field trips each year for students who attend regularly.
Chess ClubNo matter your child’s skill or experience level, this chess club is right for them. We will teach the chess club the beginning moves and advanced strategies over the course of the 2017-2018 school year.
Code IgniteWith the help of Vanderbilt student volunteers, Code Ignite provides free programs to teach basic computer programming to Nashville youth. The club's goal is to foster enthusiasm about computer science in young people and introduce them to career opportunities available in tech fields.
Drama ClubStudents will practice and perform a play at the end of each semester.
Garden ClubSpring garden club is mostly about getting the garden ready for the upcoming growing season. As always, we'll also try out some yummy recipes using garden-fresh ingedients. Note that space is limited, and preference is given to returning members.
Offseason RoboticsWest End's robotics team participates in the BEST Robotics Competition each fall. BEST is an intense but fun and rewarding 6-week project-based STEAM program that also develops leadership, project management, and marketing skills. During the season, we focus on building a robot and practicing for game day. This spring, we will focus on becoming better prepared for other parts of the competition. Specifically, we will be learning about coding and website design. Note that space is limited, and preference is given to returning members.
SpanishIn this class, students will have the opportunity to immerse in the Spanish language and culture. Each class will incorporate art, storytelling, games, music and multimedia activities to learn Spanish in a fun way! This class is great for new and returning students.
Stop Motion AnimationHave a blast with Stop Motion Animation using clay, Legos, whiteboards, cutouts and more! Storyboard ideas, develop plots, and create unique characters as you bring inanimate objects to life! Learn the basic of stop-motion animation then challenge yourself to take it to new levels. All skill levels welcome.
YearbookDesign and create school yearbook. Support school with multimedia projects. Students must complete application in order to participate in club.
YogaThis Yoga workshop incorporates different styles and poses with relaxing and creative intention. An experienced instructor will guide students through yoga stretches and routines that quite the mind and strengthen the body. A yoga mat comes with the class so students can take what they learn with them. After a long day of school, this opportunity could be just the thing a growing mind needs. All skill levels welcome.
