Description
MNPS Wrestling (Co-ed)This is West End's wrestling team, which is a co-op with JT Moore. Beginners and seasoned wrestlers in grades 6, 7, and 8 are welcome. Monday-Friday 4-6pm practices at JT Moore. Locations vary for Monday & Wednesday matches against other MNPS middle schools.
Code IgniteThis club’s goal is to foster enthusiasm with hands-on computer science and coding that will introduce students to the varied career opportunities available in the ever-growing tech industry.
InterAxionCurious how the brain works? Here’s your chance to actually TOUCH one! This is a rare opportunity to have hands-on experience with a sheep’s brain under the expert guidance of Vanderbilt students who study them.
Sports Injury Prevention ClinicThis three-week clinic focuses on preseason injury prevention, proper body mechanics, and technical training for any athlete. Students can participate as little or as much as they like, and learn how to protect their bodies from sports injuries. There will be an informational meeting for parents, students, and coaches on January 18 at 5:30PM in the auditorium.
Guitar ClubSmall group guitar lessons introduce students to the language of music while learning basic chords, musical notation, guitar fingering, and song. FREE GUITAR TO TAKE HOME!!
Offseason RoboticsWest End's robotics team participates in the BEST Robotics Competition each fall. BEST is an intense but fun and rewarding 6-week project-based STEAM program that also develops leadership, project management, and marketing skills. During the season, we focus on building a robot and practicing for game day. This spring, we will focus on becoming better prepared for other parts of the competition. Specifically, we will be learning about coding and website design. Note that space is limited, and preference is given to returning members.
Drama ClubThis semester’s production of the Wizard of Oz will bring Dorothy and Toto to life! The Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys will be sure to add some excitement to the stage. Students will create sets and costumes and learn about lighting, sound, performing, and all around good fun in the theater.
Math and Computational ThinkingA refreshing and playful approach to learning about math and computer science with Vanderbilt professors and graduate students who have found creative ways to connect their interests--from finding patterns in shapes and numbers, to reading and writing poetry, to dancing and acting—to mathematics and computers.
Songwriters ClubThe Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame will be sponsoring an afterschool club for students interested in songwriting. Students will learn about the craft of songwriting and work individually and in groups to write music. Space will be limited.
Book ClubClub members will be responsible for reading one book each month chosen by Ms. Dixon. The books are discussed at each meeting. There are limited books for borrowing but some copies can be acquired through Limitless Libraries. There are two field trips annually for regular attendees.
Garden ClubSpring garden club is mostly about getting the garden ready for the upcoming growing season. As always, we'll also try out some yummy recipes using garden-fresh ingredients. Note that space is limited, and preference is given to returning members.
Spanish ClubLearn about Spanish language and culture the fun way—through art, storytelling, games, music, and multimedia activities. Great for seasoned or beginning students.
YearbookSpend time with friends designing and creating the WEMS school yearbook! Students will also support the school with multimedia projects.
Golf The West End/JT Moore golf team is organized as a club sport. Boys and girls in 5th-8th grade are eligible to participate, and no experience is necessary. Chess ClubNo matter the skill level or experience, any student can learn basic chess moves as well as advanced strategies with Vanderbilt student leadership. Invite your friends to join in head-to-head chess matches!
Stop-Motion AnimationHave a blast using clay, LEGOs, whiteboards, cutouts and more while creating storyboard ideas, developing plots, and unique characters, as you bring inanimate objects to life. Learn the basics and challenge yourself to take it to the next level.
YogaLearn different styles and poses with relaxing and creative intention. An experienced yoga instructor will guide students through stretches and routines that quiet the mind and strengthen the body. FREE MAT to KEEP!
Lacrosse—BoysOpen to 5th-8th grade boys, both beginners and seasoned players. Practices are right after school, with both weekday and weekend games. Scholarships and gear available. Visit wemslax.com for more info.
Lacrosse—GirlsOpen to 5th-8th grade girls, both beginners and seasoned players. Practices are right after school, with both weekday and weekend games. (No Wednesday practices, so students can participate in Drama Club, too!)

NewspaperWhat's it take to put together a newspaper? Learn how to interview, collect information, and create stories about WEMS school life with friends! Language and literature tutoring is also being offered during newspaper club to sharpen skills.
Ultimate FrisbeeNashville Ultimate Machine is Nashville's official Ultimate Frisbee organization, with professionals ready to teach you their expert moves. Great exercise and fun with friends! On the front lawn, weather permitting.
